Those visiting the Frankfort or Lexington areas of the bourbon trail may have seen the Bluegrass Distillers Midway tour pop up as one of the tour options in the area. Or, if you’re into craft bourbon, you may have tried the whiskey and may just want to put a face to the name! Well, no matter how you heard about the Bluegrass Distillers Midway tour, we are here to tell you that it is one of our favorite new bourbon experiences that have popped up on the bourbon trail. The Historic Farm & Setting

After a long outgrowing their small Lexington location, Bluegrass Distillers Midway calls a historic 1830s farm and mansion home. They scaled up in a huge way with this distillery, building it on a 60+ acre farm with a 6000 SQ foot mansion and a state-of-the-art distillery. When you arrive at your Bluegrass Distillers Midway tour, you will be checked in at the mansion and guest house after a short and private tree-lined drive in. If you are a fan of Kentucky history, this place has nearly 2 centuries of stories to tell.

The Award-Winning Whiskey

Did we mention that the whiskey here is great? Bluegrass Distillers has not only been distilling whiskey for about a decade, (honestly a good accolade in the world of bourbon!) but have won several awards for their juice over the years. We’re big fans of their toasted finished bourbon, french oak finishes, and the highly sought after Turkey Trace bottles that made their rounds in 2024. You’ll get to try a solid lineup of these bourbons on the Bluegrass Distillers Midway tour!

The Location

The location for the Bluegrass Distillers Midway tour is hard to beat. Whether you’re touring the Frankfort region or Lexington, Midway is only 15-20 minutes from other noteworthy distilleries and is very easy to add to a tour day. The distillery is also in a historic small town whose story is told less-often than Lexington, Frankfort, and some of the other distillery towns along the Central KY bourbon region.

Will you see bourbon being made on a Bluegrass Distillers Tour?

Yes you will! In fact, the production capacity at the distillery is rather large since the recent expansion. There is a large 32 inch column still, over a dozen fermenters, a filling and bottling area, and more. Just about everything you’d see on a larger production tour you will see on a Bluegrass Distillers Tour!

Will you taste bourbon on a Bluegrass Distillers Tour?

Indeed you will. On the production tour or tasting-only experience you will get to sample a variety of whiskeys. Generally it will be a lineup of bourbons with a rye or two mixed in. There is an option to sample more whiskey or to get cocktails at the end.

How do I book a tour?

Are there other distilleries near Bluegrass Distillers Midway?

Yes there are! The distillery is only 20-25 minutes outside of Lexington and about the same distance from Frankfort. That puts the Bluegrass Distillers Elwood farm location close to fan favorites like Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, and about a dozen others!
