Copper & Kings has an incredible campus in the heart of Butchertown. Once a busy seed and feed business, the property has ties to agriculture in one of the oldest areas of the city. The multi-story property is complete with a bar, event room, distillery, lounge, a rooftop bar and kitchen, and more! This is a place where you can hang outside on a nice day with plenty of indoor space to get away from cold or rainy weather.

The Copper & Kings Tour

The Copper & Kings Tour is one of our favorites in the city. While you don’t see mashtubs or some of the large column stills you see in some of the bourbon distilleries, you’ll see highly specialized and custom equipment made exclusively for the Copper & Kings brandy operation. You’ll taste some fantastic products, including bourbon; you’ll get to see a unique barrel aging process, and much more! The Copper & Kings tour is a lot of fun and informative.

A Breath of Fresh Air

We hear it all the time. Some folks get burnt seeing and hearing the bourbon production process over and over again on distillery tours. Or they’ll say all the bourbon tastes the same after a few days. The Copper & Kings tour is a breath of fresh air. The tour doesn’t take itself too seriously. There are a lot less rules for brandy making, and there is a whole lot more room for creativity. You get to try something different, see a different distilling process, and if you’ve been doing bourbon tours, you have something fresh on your mind to compare it to. You also get to see firsthand how Kentucky bourbon has found its way in practically every spirits category!

The Copper & Kings Products

Copper & Kings makes several types of brandies and ages most of them in bourbon barrels. The result is a fruit-forward, tannic sort of brandy that isn’t too sweet. They also get very creative with various wine and spirits barrels from around the world for finishing their signature brandy and imparting unique flavors. As of 2024, Copper & Kings put out their first bourbon, which did really well in the awards circles, winning silver and double platinum metals against some long standing bourbon competition. So, if you have some folks in your group who like brandy, or wine, or aren’t too fond of bourbon, it is quite likely they’ll find something they like on the Copper & Kings tour.

Will you learn about bourbon on the Copper & Kings tour?

You will! While the distillery is more focused on brandy than bourbon, it has released some award-winning bourbons over the last few years. On the Copper & Kings tour, you will learn most of its products are integrated with bourbon barrels and get a lot of insight on bourbon barrel aging and finishing techniques. As of 2021, Copper & Kings also became part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail! So, yes bourbon stuff. But be open to brandy! It has a great history and is an artform in itself.

Will you get to taste spirits on a Copper & Kings tour?

Indeed! On the Copper & Kings Tour, you will try several products that include both brandy and bourbon. There are also options to try additional products, cocktails, and more at the bar.

If it’s a nice day, you can spend some time outside in the courtyard playing cornhole or drinking a cocktail. There is a rooftop bar and restaurant you can visit, too! Is Copper & Kings close to other parts of the bourbon trail?

Indeed it is! The distillery is near downtown, so every downtown Louisville distillery is accessible. In addition, it’s easy to visit here if you’re doing any other part of the bourbon trail and staying in Louisville! We offer service here for any Louisville area tours or pick-ups.
