Within a 30 minute drive of our state capital, Frankfort Kentucky, you can find over 10 world-class bourbon distilleries. Our Frankfort Kentucky Bourbon Trail Map aims to help you navigate the region to better plan out your trip!

There is a fantastic variety of bourbon distilleries in Frankfort Kentucky; detail-oriented craft distilleries, high-volume working distilleries, legacy distilleries, and everything in between. And while these are all in a fairly small area, the hours can add up driving back and forth to each, so it is best to approach your bourbon day with a plan! We hope that our Frankfort KY Bourbon trail map helps with planning both your route and trip.

Frankfort KY Bourbon Trail Distillery List

Our list shows all of the tourable Frankfort KY distilleries that are official members of the bourbon trail. The Kentucky Distillers Association considers this to be the Central KY region, but as locals, we think of this as the Frankfort area. Please note, Buffalo Trace is not an official member of the bourbon trail, but there is no way we could leave them out.

Frankfort Bourbon Trail FAQ

Is the Frankfort trail the same as the Central Kentucky Bourbon Trail?

Yes it is. The KDA considers the region we are discussing the Central Kentucky bourbon trail. We consider this the Frankfort Bourbon Trail because everything is within about 30 minutes of Frankfort. We both consider the Lexington region to be separate, but Lexington is part of Central Kentucky. So we consider this the Frankfort region to save ourselves the confusion.

What is the best way to get around the Frankfort KY Bourbon Trail?

For this part of the bourbon trail, you will need a vehicle. There is not a walkable portion of the bourbon trail here, and the distilleries are a good distance away from one another. There really isn’t much ridesharing going on in this area, so this is a region where it’s a good idea to have a DD or hire a tour company. How long does it take to complete this part of the Bourbon Trail?

This depends! If you are wanting to do experiences at each distillery, you can get this done in about 3 days. If you just want to stop in, have a drink, see the grounds, and check off some boxes, you can do it in 2.

What are the most notable distilleries in Frankfort Kentucky?

The most noteworthy distilleries are the legacy distilleries in this region. Those are of course Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Wild Turkey, and Woodford Reserve. Each one offers something unique to the region and are well worth the trip! But of course, don’t forget about the craft distilleries. Like Bluegrass Distillers, Castle & Key, or Whiskey Thief.

Where is the best place to stay for this section of the bourbon trail?

There are some great hotels and Airbnbs right in Frankfort. We are partial to staying in Louisville, where you have the best amenities, nightlife, convenience, and much more.
