If you're visiting the bourbon trail for the first time, then you may have seen the Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. tour show up as one of the options in the Frankfort region. Or, if you’re local, you may have heard all the buzz from one of the locals! No matter how you heard of Whiskey Thief, if you talk to us about it, we will tell you we absolutely love this place and that we find it to be one of the most authentic stops on the bourbon trail!

We offer stops or tours at Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. or any of our Frankfort-area transportation or pick-3 packages. And now in Louisville, we can add their 2nd location, the Nulu tasting room as a nightcap or late-start tour!

Unfiltered Bourbon from the Barrel

Well… we like unfiltered bourbon! And not just because of our namesake. At Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. you can drink whiskey straight from the barrel, the way god intended. On any of the Whiskey Thief tours or tastings, you will be able to drink from a handful of selected barrels, all at barrel strength, char and all! Our mantra about this place is, the barrel experience at Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. is as close as you can get to bourbon without being an actual distiller.

Exclusive Bourbon

We get asked a lot, where can you find Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. products on the shelves, or at what liquor stores? At the time, you can really only get Whiskey Thief products onsite at the distillery. And you get to bottle the bourbon yourself! You used to see some of the their bourbon floating around Kentucky from folks who sourced barrels from Three Boys Whiskey, and there may be an occasional barrel pick. But, if you want something you can’t get anywhere else, this is the place!

Everyone has their idea of what Kentucky bourbon is. And at a lot of the tours and distilleries, you will see attempts to match their high-end branding to make everything look like a postcard or Hallmark movie set. That’s nice and all, if that’s what you’re going for… but we like authenticity. At Whiskey Thief Distilling Co., you don’t see a lot of frills. Most everything is done under one roof, and you’re on an actual farm, drinking whiskey in a barn - straight out of a barrel - with folks from all walks of life. If you can find a more genuine Kentucky experience, we'd love to hear about it!

Just a Good Time

For how small Whiskey Thief is, both physically and in the world of bourbon, they are very good at hosting and having something for everyone! We like to think of this place as a choose your own adventure kind of place. You can stick around to hear about bourbon production on the Whiskey Thief tour, or you can grab a glass and head back to the barrels if you purchase a tasting. If that’s not your thing, then you can head to the bar for bourbon slushies, cocktails, or seltzers! You’ll hear live music towards the end of day on weekends, and there will be a food truck, and people hanging out inside and outside. This place is a good time, any time of the day!

Will you see production on the Whiskey Thief tour?

You will! While Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. is more of a tasting kind of place, you can stick around to hear a presentation every 30 minutes or so. This is a working distillery, so you have all of your standard bourbon making equipment. On the Whiskey Thief tour, will also learn about the history of the company and farm, which is a great story of a small, family-run business!

Do you get to bottle your own whiskey at Whiskey Thief Distilling Co.?

You heard that right! If there’s something you like during the Whiskey Thief tour or tasting, you can take some home with you. And while some places have a tap where you can fill a barrel, you get to use the actual copper tube (the Whiskey Thief). yourself. This makes for a great video or photo opportunity, or gift! Like hey… I bottled this for you.

How do I book a tour?

You can book a Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. Tour on their website with options for the Louisville or Frankfort location. They do allow walk-ins, but if its a busy weekend or larger group, they do like to have a heads up so they can prerpare for your visit.

Which Whiskey Thief location is better to visit?

If you didn’t catch it yet, there are TWO Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. locations. The first and primary location is the distillery in Frankfort, Ky - this is where the bourbon is produced. The other location is the Nulu location, which is more of a tasting and cocktail bar. Both are great, but the Nulu location is more accessible for most folks. If you’re wanting to take a day trip to Frankfort or are out doing the bourbon trail, then it is absolutely worth visiting the farm and distillery! But in short, 2 different locations with different hours, accessibility, and features.

Is Whiskey Thief close to other parts of the bourbon trail?

Yes it is! The Nulu location is near downtown Louisville and the world famous Whiskey Row. There are a number of great distilleries in this area, such as Angel’s Envy, Copper & Kings, Peerless, Old Forester, and more. The Frankfort location is in the same region as some great legacy distilleries, such as Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, and more! With that, we offer service to Whiskey Thief for any of our Frankfort or Louisville tour packages!
