Ground to Glass Spirits at Jeptha Creed Distillery

Last week, we did an offseason Jeptha Creed Distillery Tour. The tours here are fun and informative, but also quite boozy. The building is beaming with charm, and the distillery operation is rather impressive for its size. This place has farming, history, good whiskey, and a whole lot to offer! So, let’s get into it.

The distillery itself is situated in an old barn-style building in Shelbyville, KY. This place has a wonderful country feel, with old cars, bundles of corn, old signs, and all kinds of quirky odds and ends. There are several bars on the property, all of which are gorgeous, with each one offering a variety of beverages to the public and tour guests. This is a great distillery to eat and spend an extra hour at, especially on a nice country afternoon.

While the distillery hasn’t been producing spirits as long as the big guys in Kentucky, Jeptha Creed is producing a sizable amount of fairly-aged spirits and does plenty of innovative stuff. And for what the distillery itself lacks in distilling history, the family history makes up for. This distillery is one of only a few that is woman-owned, and the family has several generations of history in farming, commerce, and more within the county.

The Jeptha Creed Distillery Tour is nice; here, you’ll step outside a few times to see the onsite mill and rickhouse, though you only visit the rickhouse on specialty tours. There is a nice video explaining the products, the “ground-to-glass” motto that Jeptha Creed lives by, and you’ll learn the family’s ties to local history. You’ll learn a bit about farming, distilling, and more, while seeing a nice mix of equipment throughout several areas of the property.

You’ll end your tour in the main distillation room before heading out to the bar for your tasting. Here we tasted all whiskey products… right up our alley! And the sample sizes were quite nice. Once you exit the tasting, there is a gorgeous cocktail bar where you can order food, and plenty of drink, merch and snack offerings are available via the onsite gift shop. You can leave gratuity for your guides in the gift shop if you purchase anything, which is always appreciated on the bourbon trail.

This was a fun tour for us. It’s right outside of Louisville, so it’s easy to make a half day trip to the distillery. The whiskey was good, the property was inviting, and there is a whole lot of hospitality going around here. Overall, we are big fans of the Jeptha Creed Distillery Tour and the property itself. Be sure to get this one on your list, and reach out to us here at UKT for any transportation needs!

** Please note, Unfiltered Kentucky Tours is not paid to advertise any distillery or experience on our website. We simply enjoy bourbon, and try to visit each distillery every year to see what’s new. We will always ask first, but may join you on your tour if we haven’t been to one in a while, or if one of our drivers hasn’t been. Personally, we nerd out a crazy number of things during these tours. but, we keep these reviews vague on purpose. We want you to be able to see these beautiful operations and ask questions for yourself! Cheers*
